Disability Advisory + Action Council

Mission Statement

A.R.T./New York’s Disability Advisory + Action Council (DAAC) is a group of disabled artists, administrators, and consultants working across the theatre field who support and strengthen the organization’s commitment to accessibility and disability equity. Council members offer lived experience and professional expertise that informs A.R.T./New York’s internal practices, programming, and external initiatives, including the Disability Equity Series and other accessibility-focused projects.

Grounded in lived experience and professional expertise, the council advises on organizational practices while engaging in targeted initiatives that help advance accessibility across the theatre field. Building on the work of the former Disability Advisory Council, the DAAC combines advisory guidance with actionable engagement, allowing council members to contribute both strategic insight and project-based support.

The DAAC is rooted in principles of anti-ableism, equity, and accountability, recognizing that disability justice requires both structural change and cultural shift. Through this work, the council helps translate values into practice, ensuring that disability equity is meaningfully integrated into A.R.T./New York’s programs, operations, and community engagement. The DAAC contributes to the ongoing work of building a more inclusive, accessible, and equitable theatre ecosystem across New York City.
